I have yet to read the full text of Rick Santorum's Reagan-like "evil" speech, but I have already seen some comments about his imagined-Presidency--imagined in terms of how his faith would govern his governing. This is my response, again, without having read his text. Yet.
Back in 1960, in the campaign of John Fitzgerald Kennedy vs. Richard Milhouse Nixon, non-Catholics proliferated literature and other propaganda claiming that, if JFK were elected, the Pope would be dictating our government's policies. JFK was elected, and the Pope did not dictate our government's policies. If Santorum is elected, as I pray he will be, he will not be foisting his Catholicism on the rest of us.
I am an evangelical Protestant, and I'm somewhat inclined to believe that Santorum is correct in saying that Protestants are in disarray (if he did say that); there is way too much finger-pointing and labeling of various "famous" pastors/preachers/teachers as "false teachers" or "false prophets." This is not as it should be. But I believe the Christian Church has been in similar disarray throughout the centuries, which is why we have Protestants and Catholics, and denominations, cults and sects. The desire of Jesus’ heart is that we all (believers) be one, even as He and the Father are one (see John 17).
The wonder of it all is that, despite the involvement of human beings, the Church of Jesus Christ continues, and it will continue until He comes again.
