Title: Fixing My Eyes on Jesus: Daily Moments in His Word
Author: Anne Graham Lotz
Published by Zondervan, 2012
Kindle Edition; also available in Hardcover, with 400 pages
Anne Graham Lotz is the daughter of the Reverend Billy Graham and his late wife, Ruth Bell Graham--herself a noted author. The devotionals in this book reveal the solid foundation in faith that Ms. Lotz and her siblings, including the Reverend Franklin Graham, received from their parents.
When this book became available for BookSneeze reviewers, I tried to get past it, because I didn't
think I wanted to review a devotional book. But I did want to use it, and I kept going back to it. And here I am.
Some years ago, while reading a book based in the letter to the Hebrews, my eyes similarly got caught while reading the first two verses in Hebrews 12:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Those words looking to Jesus might have been in neon lights, the way they captured not only my eyes, but my mind.
I find Lotz's devotional book helps me stay on track--or, more accurately, get back on track, when I am distracted by people, places or things; by weighty concerns for family, friends, our church, or our future. If, as I do, you need a daily, Bible-based reminder to let Him carry your worries, your guilt or shame, your fears--those things that weigh you down--I highly recommend Fixing My Eyes on Jesus as an adjunct to your Bible reading. I give it *****.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
