Warning! Don't be duped by a name!

I took a fundraising phone call, this afternoon, for The Committee for Missing Children.  Good name, sounds like a good cause, but I'd never heard of this organization, before.  After I had ended the call with an "I'm sorry; not this year," I checked them out.  Here's what I found; notice the upside down relationship between program expenses and what gets spent on fundraising efforts.  At least, this caller didn't get totally rude.

Good stewardship includes looking into an organization, before you given them a dime.  I rest easy, knowing our support of Compassion International is used wisely and well and is making a serious difference in the lives of our sponsored kids!

Want whiter teeth?

I do, actually, and the whitening strips I tried a few years ago made my teeth hurt after only a couple of days.  So when I saw an ad on a news site claiming to show a comparison of several different products, including professional whitening in a dentist's office, I clicked on the ad.

The person who wrote the page that came up claimed to have tried and compared the various products and rated them.  All in the friendly spirit of saving other people (like me) the trouble and expense of trying all those other products and methods, you understand.

One product was given five out of five stars, so--suspicious though I was about this entire "just sharing what I've found" gimmic--I clicked on the link to read about that product.  The writing style was identical to the first page.  So was a notable spelling error that appeared once in both the "comparison" page and the product information page:  "Ofcorse."

Maybe it's just my cynical little mind.
